Tooth inlays and onlays

When there is a loss of a large part of molar, the question arises how to fix it better.

A tooth can be restored with a filling, inlay, onlay or teeth crown prostheses.
After the restoration of a large tooth defect with a filling, it is difficult to reconstruct the tooth and interdental anatomy, after a few years it will inevitably change shape (shrink), because between the seal and the tooth there forms a micro gap, which leads to the tooth decay, crack, and crumble of filling.

Therefore, in such cases it is recommended tooth inlays and onlays – micro prostheses from porcelain or metal, designed to restore a part of chewing surfaces of molars or the entire surface. It’s like a kind of durable, high-quality seals, only produced by dental technicians in the laboratory from special metals, composites or ceramics. Inlay is cemented into the tooth, reverses damage in areas of tooth fissures and holes; while onlay covers a part or the entire tooth, forming a contact surface of the tooth. Onlay restores the exact shape of the tooth, it is reinforced, because it wears much less, does not change the form, therefore prevents from micro cracks and secondary caries, tooth should not be completely sanded, as restoring with the crown prostheses. The color palette of ceramic onlays and inlays allows restoring aesthetic view of a tooth.
When restoring a tooth with crown prosthesis, the tooth is sanded completely.
